The Water Ninja - (OC) Ch. 1: A Mysterious Find

It was pitch black out.

I was chasing down a pack of Serpentine that Nya told us about. The pests were lurking in the outskirts of Ninjago City. They had no idea I was following them. I had followed them all the way into the forest lining Ninjago City.

Jay and Zane had stayed home; Nya said it was just a minor alert. Kai was out here somewhere. But we had split up because we had found two different groups of serpent minions.

I crept silently through the brush, light feet and alert. I peered through the darkness at the small pod of green Serpentine. There were three of them, I counted. I brought my scythe out from behind me, and poised to attack. They had paused in a small clearing in the forest and were talking, but I couldn’t hear what they were saying.

I slowly crept forward, around the tree, in silence. I closed in on them and was just about to attack when.

Sssssk,

Bam!

A golden arrow flew through the brush and leaves and hit the head of one of the Serpentine. What the heck? I thought, puzzled. But I didn’t have time to think of where it came from. The Serpentine wailed in pain while his friends screeched in terror and fled.

I sped after them, running through the trees and bushes, occasionally getting caught on a branch. I cursed when one sharp twig cut me. But I pressed on, sprinting through the leaves. The serpentine were fast, but I kept on their tail.

I was just closing in when…

“OOOF!” The air whooshed out of me from impact.

“AHK!” I heard from someone else. But that was not Kai.

There was a sickening Smack! and I hit foreheads with something hard. My scythe and I fell to the ground and I heard clatter. More clatter than my scythe alone would make.

I had collided with someone and was now sprawled out on the ground. “Ugn…” I moaned and rubbed my forehead. I sat up and squinted through the darkness, just to see it was…

A girl?

She lay, sprawled out on the ground, eyes closed.

“Hello?” No answer.

“Miss? Hello?” Nothing.

I reached over and grabbed my scythe and returned it to its rightful place on my back. I slowly got to my feet and walked near the mysterious girl. She had long brown hair, falling in long waves on the forest floor, and a bow that had fallen out of her hand. Her quiver had fallen on impact and the arrows were spread everywhere. I brushed her hair out of her eyes and looked at her pretty face for a moment.

Hold on…

I just knocked a girl unconscious.

With my head.

I had to help her. What if I had accidently hurt her? I would feel horrible! I don’t even know who this girl is! Or where she came from!

Slowly, in the dark, I gathered all her arrows and her bow and hung it, along with the quiver, over my arm. I carefully reached down and picked up the girl from the soggy forest ground, beginning the trek back home.

I arrived at the ship to find that Kai was already there, sitting at the table with the rest of the group. There were many shocked faces and open mouths when I came walking in with a girl in my arms. Zane gasped. Sensei stood up immediately, and led me to one of the Bounty’s spare rooms. The rest of the gang followed us, and I laid the girl down on the spare bed as gently as possible. I set her bow and arrows near her bed. I told the ninja, Sensei, and Nya the story of how I was hunting Serpentine and found the girl.

Sensei shuffled over and laid a palm on her forehead, then gasped.

“What? What is it Sensei? What’s wrong with her?” I asked frantically.

“She… She has the power within…” He spoke carefully.

“What power?” Kai asked.

“I feel the power of Spinjitzu living inside this one. She holds the power of water. Pure and true. Flowing smooth like the ocean. She will be one of you.” He said wistfully.

We were all quiet. None of us ever expected another addition to the team. I was in a state of shock, considering I just found this girl in the forest.

I shook my head, clearing my thoughts. “What about her physical condition, Sensei?” I asked, bringing him back to reality.

“Oh yes. She will be alright, she just needs some rest. Her head is going to hurt tomorrow. I advise we leave. Give the girl peace.”

“What!? We’re just bringing a random girl into the Bounty and letting her sleep here?” Jay ranted, forgetting to be quiet. “Why don’t we just go and find random people off the streets and b-”

“Ugn…” The girl groaned. We all went silent. We gathered around the girl’s bed as she stirred, clutching her head. “Wha-? Where…am I?”

“The more important question of the matter, my dear, is who are you?” Sensei asked.

“My name’s Lexi.”
